CIUDAD MCY.- Una historia que es ejemplo de superación y motivación es la que protagoniza día a día Héctor Pava, joven aragüeño de 32 años de edad, que pese a haberse apagado la luz de su visión cuando era sólo un niño, tras golpear su cabeza accidentalmente con un poste de alumbrado público, no ha dejado de cumplir sus metas y sueños.

Su aleccionadora historia personal va unida a su trayectoria deportiva, demostrando a la sociedad en general que los tabús, barreras, prejuicios y complejos, solo existen en la mente de las personas. Ser una persona con discapacidad visual no le ha impedido a Héctor desarrollarse como atleta y practicar gran variedad de deportes como parapotencia, goalball, paratletismo, escalada, ciclismo y skateboarding (estas tres últimas adaptadas).

“Fue el profesor Eduardo Hernández, quien me dijo que había deportes para ciegos y me invitó a correr paratletismo. Comencé con 800 metros planos y salto largo. Con el tiempo empecé a rendir frutos y participé en el 2005 en un Campeonato Parapanamericano en Barquisimeto, donde obtuve oro. De allí en adelante las competiciones fueron sumándose y los triunfos también”, relató el joven mencionando que hasta ese momento desconocía el mundo de la discapacidad.

Toda esa situación significó un gran aprendizaje para Héctor, ya que comenzó su lucha por darse nuevas oportunidades de vida y ser un hombre útil y demostrarle al mundo que todo ser humano tiene las herramientas necesarias para desarrollarse en esta sociedad y lograr las metas que desee y que la discapacidad visual no es un impedimento para aprender cosas nuevas cada día.

“Al tiempo no pude continuar en el atletismo porque el profesor se retiró y un amigo me recomienda ir al gimnasio. Al principio no sabía si era para verme bien físicamente o para competir, (cuenta de manera jocosa). Es así como llego al mundo de la parapotencia y nuevamente ingreso a la selección nacional. Mi primera competencia en este deporte fue en Estados Unidos en un mundial categoría juvenil y abierto y me traje dos de oro y dos de plata (respectivamente)”, narró Pava destacando los logros alcanzados en poco tiempo.

La experiencia en el paratletismo y parapotencia le confirmó al joven aragüeño que tenía aptitudes para ser talentoso en la práctica deportiva. Entendió que si quería seguir siendo la persona que era, tenía que trabajar, mejorar, y continuar aprendiendo.

“Al tiempo conocí el goalball y desde el 2017 estoy entrenando. La escalada forma parte de mis entrenamientos, aunque recientemente competí en un Campeonato Regional de Escalada, donde me ubiqué en el primer lugar. Además, estoy aprendiendo a patinar y rodar en bicicleta”, comentó con mucha confianza asegurando además que próximamente se inscribirá en un club de karate para continuar aprendiendo.

Héctor ha descubierto que la principal característica para superarse es la perseverancia, empeño y fuerza de voluntad que cada quien imprima a lo que hace. “Si uno tiene eso, puedes hacer todo. La discapacidad no debe impedirte hacer o aprender cosas”.

Aunque él ya ha defendido los colores de Venezuela dentro y fuera de nuestras fronteras, su meta es poder vestir el uniforme de la selección en las nuevas diciplinas que practica ahora. El futuro de Héctor augura muchos triunfos y aplausos, no sólo por las medallas doradas que aún le faltan por conquistar sino además por el gran ejemplo de superación que significa su historia y el mensaje motivador que desea transmitir a quien en este momento lo necesite.

“Soy un muchacho que me gusta aprender bastante. Sé que a muchos les va a costar, pero como dicen por allí, nadie nació aprendido. No se pongan barrera, las barreras están en la mente. Mientras tengan salud, pueden hacer todo. Tenemos un rol por cumplir en la sociedad. Existe mucha exclusión en la práctica, aunque en la letra diga lo contrario. Los discapacitados visuales no son empleados a diferencia de personas amputadas, en sillas de rueda o sordos. Debemos seguir luchando una oportunidad laboral. ¿Cómo van a saber si somo competentes si no nos ponen a prueba?”, reflexionó el joven atleta.
